IOP IS BEST SUITED FOR....
Patients for whom psychotherapy and some other adjunct services seem not to be quite enough. This is a higher level of care with specific criteria based on such factors as height/weight ratio, frequency and pervasiveness of symptoms in one’s life, weight and symptom trends, etc.
WHAT THE PROGRAM INCLUDES
· IOP meets Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:45pm & on Saturdays from 10:45am-2:00pm. Patients must attend all 3 sessions each week.
· A supervised meal per day, (dinner on Tues, Thur; lunch on Saturdays), which is individually chosen by patients with our nutritionist
· Meal support group following each meal
· Psychotherapy and other treatment groups such as Body Image Issues, Nutrition Education, Group Therapy, Art Therapy, Coping Skills & Family Issues.
· Multiple Family Support and Education Group – for patients and their loved ones – meets two Saturdays per month.
CLINICAL REQUIREMENTS BEFORE ENTERING IOP
· Prior to starting IOP, patients will undergo a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment at our site.
· Medical clearance is required to participate in IOP. The physician at our location has extensive expertise in treating and diagnosing the medical implications of eating disorders or we can make referrals to other trusted physicians in the area if needed.
· All patients are required to be in weekly psychotherapy while in IOP. If needed, we can provide this on-site (separate fee from the IOP) or we can refer patients to other trusted therapists with eating disorders treatment experience.
· Only if deemed necessary, patients may be asked to be evaluated by a psychopharmacologist if not already on medication. We can provide this on-site or we can refer patients to other trusted psychiatrists with eating disorders treatment experience.
DURATION OF TREATMENT
· It is our experience that most patients obtain maximum benefit at this level of care for a minimum stay of 5-8 weeks. A step-down to one of our weekly outpatient groups is then recommended, as well as continued individual nutrition and/or psychotherapy here or elsewhere.
PAYMENT OF FEES
· We do not participate with managed care contracts but will provide weekly receipts if in fact one’s policy allows for out-of-network behavioral care.
· Fees are payable in full at the beginning of each week in advance of treatment.
· On a case by case basis, it may be possible to arrange an ad hoc agreement to be paid directly by a managed care company if the company agrees that the service is unique and/or cannot be obtained in the patient’s geographical area by an in-network provider.
